Where to go?

How far?

150km, from Hobart to Zoodoo Zoo and Tasman Peninsula.

How long?

8.30 – 18.30 or 10 hours.

What is that?

Zoodoo Zoo is a hands-on safari and native animal park. Visitors are able to feed lions, meet reptiles, and see Tasmanian devils and other native animals, such as Wallaby, Albino Wallaby, Kangaroo, Meerkat, Zebra, Camel, Llama, Alpaca, Sheep, Deer… up close every day during keeper presentations.

Lunch break: Fast food / Local restaurants / Self prepared meals. Recommendation: Tasmanian Tasting Plate at Port Arthur Lavender Farm.

Port Arthur Lavender Farm: Nestled within seven hectares (18 acres) of lavender, rainforest and lakes and overlooking the ocean at Long Bay, Port Arthur Lavender’s visitor centre and café showcase millennia-old uses of this fragrant flower alongside modern cuisine and a fully functioning essential oil distillery.

Remarkable Cave: It is remarkable not only for its unique form, but also because its opening, when viewed from the observation platform at the bottom of a long flight of steps, is roughly the shape of Tasmania. The cave has been carved out of the sandstone cliff face by the sea, forming a rock bridge. Near the viewing platform are huge boulders remaining from a collapse of the cave wall.  The viewing platform at the bottom of 100 steep stairs is where the back of the cave collapsed.

Maingon Bay Lookout: Beneath the lookout, green hills tumble down to meet the clean blue waters of the bay and small waves splash gently onto rock ledges.

Tasman Arch and Devil's Kitchen: Tasman Arch is a tall natural bridge in the sea cliffs and Devils Kitchen is a deep trench without an arch that has also been carved out by the Tasman Sea. Both attractions can be observed from overlooks at a pair of car parks and you can gain more perspectives, including a coastal overlook, but walking a 0.9-kilometer loop.

Blowhole: Depending on the ocean swells on the day, The Blowhole can amaze you with its raw power as huge waves force their way through the small opening from the ocean and smash into the massive boulders in the cauldron in front of you.

Tessellated Pavement: Formed by cracking of the rock caused by movements in the Earth’s crust, subsequent salt and water erosion have created loaf-like formations near the water’s edge, and concave pan-like “tiles’ further back.

Pirate Bay/Eaglehawk Neck: This must be one of the best in the world – it’s from the lookout on Pirates Bay Drive at the top of the hill. Pause at the lookout for a spectacular panorama of Pirates Bay, enjoy a great coffee when the Cube van is there, then descend via a scenic winding road into the town.
